U.S. Fire Administration Focus on Fire Safety

Kelvin Cochran: According  to the National Fire Protection  Association, an 
average of 317,000 intentional fires are reported to fire departments in the 
United States each year,

Kelvin Cochran: causing injuries to almost 7,800 fire fighters and civilians, 
and an estimated $1.1 billion dollars in property loss.

Kelvin Cochran: Arson can devastate a community resulting in the decline of 
the neighborhood through increased insurance premiums, loss of business 
revenue, and a decline in property values. For these reasons the theme for 
the National Arson Awareness Week May 2nd through 8th, is community arson 
prevention.

Kelvin Cochran: The goal of this years Arson Awareness Week is to focus 
attention on the horrific crime of arson and provide communities tools and 
strategies to combat arson in their neighborhoods, businesses, schools, and
