Transcript of Vital Files.mov Welcome to your continuity connection. Imagine you have to evacuate your workplace right now! After you and your colleagues are out, the continuity plan kicks in. Which means you may have to work out of an alternate location. Now one the most important resources for continuing the essential function of your office and your work is access to your vital files, records and databases. The basic way to think about records is, what am I going to do, and then what records do I need to support that function? And when do I need to bring those records back online as my functions come back online? Extensive planning must occur prior to operating from a different location. One of the things that if you're working in your emergency management agencies or thinking about your COOP is to make sure that you've got people sitting around the table who are your records management people who know your records systems, who know how they work, who know where the records are. Who know what records support the functions. That would be one of the keys I think. A second thing is for each individual to think about what is their role in the COOP activation, and what records do they need to play that role? So backing up files, having duplicate hard copies and working with your information technology folks to keep access to computer systems will help ensure you have what you need to accomplish your work at an alternate site. Remember, making these contacts and preparations ahead of time will ensure you have access to the information and files you need. When you do, you'll be making the continuity connection.
