Status of Legislation to Ban or Limit the Sale of Novelty and Toylike Lighters

Nebraska has introduced legislation banning or limiting the sale of novelty and toylike lighters.

2013 Legislative Session

Feb 22: Legislative Bill 403 was introduced to the Judiciary Committee.

Jan 22: Legislative Bill 403 was introduced by Senator Les Seiler. LB 403 would ban the sale and distribution of novelty lighters and any person that violates the proposed law would be guilty of a Class IV misdemeanor.

2011 Legislative Session

Jan 14: Senator Russ Karpisek introduced Bill 469 which would have prohibited the retail sale of novelty lighters and provided a penalty. The legislation did not pass.
