This week's highlights
- A study published in the October issue of the American Journal of Public Health takes a close look at how the homebuilding industry has worked to obtain state preemption of local authority. According to the authors some 13 states between 2009 and 2011 adopted laws limiting local authority over residential sprinklers. At the same time it is clear to the researchers that grassroots movements like the ones promoting residential sprinklers can positively impact public safety. Read the full article here.
- A couple articles of interest were published recently in the International Journal of Wildland Fire. One article examines factors that influence the wildfire risk-mitigation decisions made by homeowners in wildfire-prone areas. Another takes a close look at the safety climate of the US federal wildfire community from the perspective of high reliability organizing practices, leadership, group culture, learning orientation and mission clarity.
