WASHINGTON D.C. - Michael D. Brown, Under Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for Emergency Preparedness and Response, announced today a special broadcast Wednesday, January 19th at 2:00pm and again at 7:00pm, introducing and supporting the National Response Plan.
Developed by the Department of Homeland Security, this new response Plan replaces several hazard-specific federal plans with a common framework for federal departments and agencies to provide emergency and disaster assistance to state, tribal and local governments. The NRP, was developed in close consultation with federal, state, tribal, local governments, first responder organizations, private sector preparedness and relief groups.
"This program will greatly enhance and support an audience understanding of the National Response Plan announced on January 6th by Secretary Ridge," said Brown. "In the future, we will be bringing to all first responders additional video and independent study opportunities to achieve this critical initiative as outlined by President Bush."
THE NATIONAL RESPONSE PLAN: One Team, One Goal - A Safer More Secure America, will feature discussions with some of the individuals who were directly involved in crafting the elements of the NRP. In addition, there will be segments from a web-based independent study course developed to help all first responders become familiar with the provisions of the plan.
"With the new capabilities of our Emergency Education Network studios and the need for providing this training to all first responders, the U.S. Fire Administration staff will be producing and delivering a number of Incident Command, Unified Command and National Incident Management courses in the near future," added U.S. Fire Administrator R. David Paulison.
