Track 6 “Telly Learns What’s Hot” Telly: Gina. Gina. Gina: Telly, what’s the matter? Telly: Oh Gina, have I got something important to tell you, and I mean really important. Gina: Alright, alright Telly come in, but please keep it down. We’re trying to put baby Honker to sleep. Telly: Ok. Sorry. Gina: So Telly, what is this really important thing you have to tell me? Telly: Well I was at Ruthie’s store and she told me all about smoke detectors and how important they are. Because you see, they make a noise to warn you if there’s fire and smoke. Then I thought, oh boy, Gina should have one of those in her daycare center. So I ran all the way over here just to tell ya. Gina: Awe that was really nice of you Telly, but guess what? You can relax because we already have a smoke detector. Telly: Ya do? Baby bear: Sure we have a smoke detector and we’ve been learning about fire safety too. Telly: Ya have? Gina: Well, we want to know all we can, so if a fire happens we will be sure to stay safe. Right baby bear? Baby bear: That’s right. We even know some great fire safety games. Telly: Fire safety games? Baby bear: Yeah. Little girl: Hey Gina, maybe Telly would like to play the red dot, blue dot game with us. Telly: What’s the red dot, blue dot game? Baby bear: Oh that’s one of my favorites. Telly: Great, great, how do you play it? Little girl: You have to figure out what’s hot and what’s not. Baby bear: And I’m great at doing that because I love to eat porridge, but when the porridge is too hot, it can burn your tongue. Like when Goldilocks brought hers the day that she ate my papa bears porridge. Gina: And burning yourself can really hurt. That’s why this game is so important. Telly: Then what are we waiting for? Let’s play. All the kids: Yeah, all right. Little girl: Let’s play. Gina: Ok, here’s how we play the red and blue dot game. First, I point to something. Then you have to tell me if you think it’s hot or cold. Little girl: And if it’s cold, Gina puts a blue dot on it. Baby bear: But if it can get hot, she puts a red dot on it. So we’ll remember not to touch it. Telly: Sounds like a good game to me. Gina: Ok then, here’s the first thing, the refrigerator. Is that hot or cold? All the kids: Cold, yeah, yeah, cold. Gina: Very good. Refrigerators are cold. So I’ll put a ? (all the kids answer, “blue dot.”) Great. Now how about a toaster? Is that hot or cold? All the kids: Hot, yeah it’s hot. Gina: Right again. Toasters can get very hot, so I’ll put a ? (all the kids answer, “red dot.”) You got it. That way we won’t forget to be very careful with toasters. Now how about heaters? You know those things we have around the house sometimes to keep it warmer? Are they hot or cold? All the kids: Hot, yeah hot, very hot. Gina: Very good. So I’ll put a ? (all the kids answer, “red dot.”) There it is, a red dot on the heater. Ok, let’s do one more. How about electrical outlets? That’s where they plug in lamps and things like that. Telly: Oh those things can burn you too. Baby bear: Yeah, their dangerous. Gina: Right again. So the electrical outlets get what color dot? All the kids: A red dot, red dot, yeah a red dot. Gina: Hey you guys are excellent at this game, you know. All the kids: Yeah, all right. (squeak, squeak, squeak) Gina: Uh oh, baby Honker woke up again. Baby bear: Maybe he got too hot under his little blanket? Song: Hot things burn, yeah hot things burn, so what’s hot and what’s not is good to learn. If you touch something hot, it could hurt you a lot. Cause hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, things burn. Now fire and smoke, they’re hot. The pots on the stove, they’re hot. The water in the tub where you scrub-a-dub, that can be hot too. So always have a grown up check that water out for you. Hot things burn so stay away. Hot things burn, they’re not for play. Hot things burn, yeah hot things burn, so what’s hot and what’s not is good to learn. If you touch something hot, it could hurt you a lot. Cause hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, things burn. Irons and toasters, they’re hot. Cups of cocoa or tea, they’re hot. The oven when they bake pies, and birthday cake, that can be hot too. So always have a grown up get those pies and cakes for you. Hot things burn, so stay away. Hot things burn, they’re not for play. Hot things burn, yeah hot things burn. So what’s hot and what’s not is good to learn. If you touch something hot, it could hurt you a lot. Cause hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, things burn. If you see fire or smoke you know it’s no joke. Cause hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, hot, things burn. It’s hot.
