New LODD online course for incident commanders

Posted: Sept. 17, 2020

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) has a new online training course to help prepare incident commanders (IC) for the unique challenges that occur in the aftermath of a firefighter line-of-duty death (LODD).

When an LODD Occurs: Incident Commanders Speak is a 1-hour course that hopefully you will never need. The course supports the IC to IC Network, providing support to incident commanders who have experienced a LODD.

The NFFF found ICs face a series of emotional, personal, political, social, legal and relationship effects after a LODD. The IC to IC Network connects incident commanders who have faced the same tragedies.

The program will:

  • Educate ICs about what they may face if a LODD occurs during a response.
  • Provide support and guidance resources for ICs after a LODD has occurred.

Through this program, the NFFF hopes to support incident commanders during a time or crisis.
