First responders are increasingly likely to encounter fentanyl in the course of their duties, due in part to the availability and demand for synthetic opioids. Fentanyl is extremely potent and first responders need to know how to protect themselves from exposure and steps to take if they are exposed.
U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) produced “Fentanyl: The Real Deal,” a new video based on the White House’s “Fentanyl Safety Recommendations for First Responders.” The video debunks some of the common myths about exposure to fentanyl and its analogs, lists methods and symptoms of exposure, recommended personal protective equipment, and discuses Nalaxone use.
Fentanyl and its analogs do pose a threat to first responders, but as with anything, proper education, prevention and response is the key to making sure everyone goes home. This video is an ideal addition to an in-house training session or as a stand-alone short instructional.
