As a student in the Executive Fire Officer (EFO) Program, you will pursue a path of professional development that spans four years, taking one course per year. Each course is two weeks in duration and is the equivalent of an upper division baccalaureate or graduate level course.

You must complete an Applied Research Project (ARP) that relates to your organization within six months after the completion of each of the four courses. When you complete the final ARP and have received a passing grade, you will be awarded the EFO Program certificate.

EFO Program curriculum

Participating in the EFO Program provided an opportunity to view issues in the fire service far beyond my prior educational endeavors. No other institution can offer such an exceptional curriculum that brings fire service leaders together to learn, discuss, problem solve, and ultimately, make a difference in their own community.

— Fire Chief Spencer Kimura, Village of Riverside, Illinois Fire Department
