Specialized training courses and advanced management programs of national impact are offered in a classroom setting at our Emmitsburg, Maryland, campus.
The National Fire Academy (NFA) offers over 70 one- and two-week on-campus courses in 12 curriculum areas.
The two-day state weekend on-campus program is an educational opportunity for fire personnel with a minimum of three years of experience from specific states. This program strengthens a state’s fire service community through education, personal networking, and a shared collegial experience. Students are offered the opportunity to grow professionally through a quality educational experience and to increase their knowledge and skills to provide a safe and effective response to their communities.
State fire training agencies sponsor the weekends in partnership with the NFA. The state agency selects the courses and recruits and enrolls students according to the established student selection criteria. The NFA hosts the weekend and provides the instruction and course materials. In addition, lodging is provided at no cost to personnel from career or volunteer departments and state/local governments. Meal costs and transportation expenses are the responsibility of the students or the sponsoring agencies.
Information about application procedures and courses is available by contacting your state fire training agency.
