  • 285 deaths.
  • 425 injuries.
  • $464,200,000 in dollar loss.

Overall trends

Overall trends for residential building intentional fires and losses for the 10-year period of 2015 to 2024 show the following:

  • 14% increase in fires.
  • 7% decrease in deaths.
    • In 2017, the peak in the estimate of fire deaths included 12 reported multifatality fire incidents.
  • 18% decrease in injuries.
  • 7% decrease in dollar loss. *
    • A $110,000,000 fire in Massachusetts and an $80,000,000 fire in Minnesota contributed to the 2017 and 2020 residential intentionally set fire dollar-loss peaks, respectively.
